Did You Know?

In 2017 Meals on Wheels of Middle Georgia served nearly 1,200 people meals in Bibb, Crawford, Jones and Monroe counties. The agency is the only one in the Bibb County region that serves up hot meals for those in need.

Its mission: Improve its clients nutrition, lessen loneliness and keep them out of hospital and in the home. Your United Way of Central Georgia donations helps give folks this vital service.

Costs to the agency for home-deliver meals have increased by about 3 percent. But that can add up when you realize that they served over 330,000 meals in the last year, according to the agency.

Meals on Wheels also activates Middle Georgians who want to volunteer their time. From mid-2016 to mid-2017 there were 125 people visiting clients. If a volunteer notices a problem with a person, they will notify Navicent Health who will send a caseworker to investigate.

"Sometimes our volunteers are the only person that our client may see that day," the agency reported.
